Doc Rivers Says It's Easier To Rebuild With The Clippers Because The Franchise Has Been Garbage
[Boston Herald] - “Yeah, but we’re rebuilding in a little different way,” he said. “And, you know, it’s easy to rebuild when you haven’t won, you know what I mean? We won in Boston, so rebuilding there is tough. We haven’t won crap in LA, but we’re trying to.
“The goal is to win, and once you win — if you ever do — then I don’t want to rebuild anymore. Then you go to the next one. That’s the way I look at it.”
Oh, Doc. I mean he’s not wrong, but not exactly what you want to hear if you’re the Clippers. Sure, part of it might be that he lost his front office role and is just the head coach as Jerry West tries to fix the Clippers, but you don’t want to sit there and be like oh, well we always sucked so it’s easy to rebuild.
Little tidbit here for Doc. The Clippers should have won and Doc was the part of the reason they didn’t. He was never able to successful bring in some wing help or some bench help. Instead he opted to bring in guys he was familiar with. So when Chris Paul suffered an injury in the playoffs he had no one to turn to. When they needed help on the wing, Doc didn’t bring in the right help.
Here’s the thing though. I love the quote. We always sit here and say that we want athletes/coaches to be honest with their interviews instead of the same old bullshit. Doc is honest here and it’s just hilarious because it’s the Clippers and Doc himself, honestly.
If he really wants to rebuild, there’s only one answer here for the Clippers:
